UK: Barclays have conducted a "Brexit Investor Survey" which comprised a broad
range of investors on their views of the UK/EU negotiations progress. Key
findings were:
* Investors saw political risks/Brexit as the "biggest hurdle for markets" in
the next 6-moths, with Brexit at 41% and domestic politics at 26% while the
economy is the least of investors' worries.
* 80% of investors expect Tory government to "preside over" next 2 phases of
negotiations, with 50% of those thinking May will remain as PM while 30% think
there will be a leadership contest.
* 75% of those polled said a snap election leading to a Labour majority or a
Labour led coalition was the biggest risk to markets. Investors also said that
either scenario of Labour being in power was the most likely outcome of a snap
election.
* Over 60% of investors expect CPI to be above 2% target over next 2-yrs, but
see it declining over time with median forecast lower than 2.6% consensus. 42%
think BoE will raise rates in H2 2018, but a rather high 30% see H1 2018
