POWER

Belgian renewable generation accounted for 29.8% of the country’s power mix in 2024, compared with 28.2% in 2023 and a new record, driven by the country’s solar PV expansion, TSO Elia said last week.

  • Solar PV output rose to 8.3TWh last year, up from 7.2TWh in 2023.
  • In contrast, onshore wind generation in Belgium edged down to 5.5TWh in 2024, down from 6.3TWh a year earlier.
  • Offshore wind generation also fell to 7TWh last year, down from 8TWh a year earlier.
  • Belgian gas-fired generation reached a new record low of 12.3TWh, or 17.6% of the power mix, in 2024, compared with 19.2TWh, or a share of 25.2%, in 2023.
