Bolsonaro Confirms End of Emergency Aid

BRAZIL

President Jair Bolsonaro confirmed today that emergency aid will not continue in 2021. The president said that the country went into debt to contain the pandemic and "reached the limit" in relation to emergency aid.

  • Yesterday, Caixa Econômica Federal paid the last instalment of emergency aid to 3.2 million people, ending the payment schedule.

On a Sao Paulo beach, Bolsonaro greeted dozens of people, held children and recorded videos with his supporters. Continuing to downplay the virus with his actions and his words, the president said, "ask God for everything to return to normal" and made an appeal to some governors who, in his words, "insist on closing everything".
  • This comes as Brazil register another 57,000+ cases and register over a thousand deaths in the past 24 hours.
