Higher food and transport prices were enough to nudge CPI inflation
to 3.0%, the highest level in over 5 years, just a whisker away from
letter-writing territory. Of the 0.1pp 12-month change in CPI, food
items were responsible for +0.1pp of the rise and transport +0.14pp. The
latter was driven by airfares, which despite falling by more this Sep
versus last, saw its associated weight revised down as part of the ONS'
annual review. At +3.0% y/y in Sep, food and non-alcoholic beverage
prices grew at the fastest pace since October 2013. Input prices held
firm at 8.4% y/y in Sep, output prices eased by 0.1pp to 3.3% y/y. House
price inflation picked up to 5.0% y/y from a revised 4.5% y/y in July.
