Caputo Labels Dollarization a Medium-Term Goal, Milei in U.S.

ARGENTINA
  • The government of Javier Milei won’t lift currency controls immediately after taking office on Dec. 10, while keeping dollarization as a medium-term goal for Argentina, according to Luis Caputo, who is leading Milei’s economic team during the transition. The key member of the president-elect’s team was speaking with bankers Friday, according to two people familiar with the conversation.
  • President-elect Milei is in the U.S. while his incoming foreign minister has travelled to Brazil to invite President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to the Dec. 10 inauguration. Milei’s delegation will meet with officials from the US Treasury, the White House and the International Monetary Fund in Washington, according to a text message from a Milei spokesperson.
    • The purpose of the meetings is to explain the incoming administration’s economic plan including the fiscal adjustment, monetary reform, state reform and deregulation. The delegation is not seeking financing on this trip, according to the spokesperson. (BBG)
