FED
FED: Chicago Fed Pres. Evans on CNBC just now, to paraphrase: says "open minded"
at doing more on rate cuts. Inflation data important. Own expectation is that we
should overshoot.
- Says rates will never be 'completely still'.
- Easy to talk about headwinds (i.e. trade), but means that policy response
could end up being a non-linear adjustment.
- U.S. Econ fundamentals 'pretty good' - reiterates consumer vs business
investment dichotomy. Sees increasing fragility in the economy (when asked about
if he sees 2020 recession risk).
- Re balance sheet, says Fed aims to provide 'ample size'.
- Reminder that Evans is considered among the biggest FOMC doves but said on Sep
25 that his rate forecast does not include another cut.
