US: /CHINA: Just a couple of stories to note re: Sino-U.S. relations from
London/NY hours, not particularly new/shocking but still of note:
- The FT wrote that the "White House and Capitol Hill are looking to match the
anti-Beijing rhetoric with steps to curb supply chains and investment flows,
according to public remarks by administration officials, congressional aides,
and industry lobbyists in Washington. However, it is unclear how far they are
willing to go, given fears of inflicting more damage to the US
economy..."There's huge appetite to legislate on China," said one Republican
congressional aide. "The pandemic has put China on the map, and a lot of people
have been talking about how do we hold China accountable," the aide said.""
- The SCMP noted that "China may move to reduce its vast holdings of US Treasury
securities in the coming months in response to a resurgence in trade tensions
and a war of words between the world's two largest economies over the origins
and handling of the coronavirus outbreak, analysts said."
