CHINA POLICY: China Orders Shut U.S. Consulate in Chengdu

MNI (Beijing)
BEIJING (MNI) - China on Friday ordered the U.S. to close its consulate in
Chengdu city of southwestern Sichuan province, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
said on its website.
The ministry informed the U.S. embassy today about the decision and other
details about the closure though it didn't disclose a formal date for the
closure.
The measure is "legitimate and necessary response" to the U.S. order
closing Chinese consulate in Houston on July 21, the ministry said.
"We once again urge the U.S. to immediately revoke the erroneous decision
to create necessary conditions for the return of bilateral relations to
normal,", the statement read.
