CHINA: China unveiled the latest version of its Politiburo Standing Committee on
Wednesday, with few surprises and no likely successor to President Xi Jinping
seen among the five new members of the country's top leadership group. Xi stays
on as the "core" of the party and the politburo, while Premier Li Keqiang
retained his No. 2 seat. The new members are Li Zhanshu, 67; Wang Huning, 62;
Wang Yang, 63; Han Zheng, 63; and Zhao Leji, 60. Li, who is regarded as Xi's top
confidant, is expected to take over as head of the National People's Congress in
March. Wang Hungin is the Communist Party's top political theorist; Wang Yang
will help Li Keqiang run the State Council, China's cabinet; Han will head the
Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; and Zhao is expected to
become China's anti-corruption czar, replacing Wang Qishan.
