China’s CNPC Set To Sign 30-Year LNG Deal With Qatar

China National Petroleum Corp is close to finalising a deal to buy LNG from QatarEnergy over nearly 30 years, sources told Reuters.

  • The LNG supplied to CNPC would come from Qatar’s North Field expansion project.
  • "CNPC has agreed on the major terms with Qatar in a deal that will be very similar to Sinopec's," said a Beijing-based state-oil official, that was signed last year.
  • China has been ramping up efforts to secure long-term LNG offtake agreements in the past months as the country’s attempts to replace coal and cut carbon emissions.
