Crude Rallies but Prompt Spreads Still in Contango

Crude futures rally from the small decline earlier today but front time spreads remain weak.

  • The prompt time are still in contango suggesting ample near term supplies due to weak demand. The WTI 1-2 prompt spread is currently trading at the lowest since late 2020.
    • Brent MAR 23 up 0.4% at 79.96$/bbl
    • WTI FEB 23 up 0.6% at 75.06$/bbl
    • WTI-Brent down -0.06$/bbl at -4.64$/bbl
    • Brent MAR 23-APR 23 down -0.06$/bbl at -0.3$/bbl
    • Brent APR 23-MAY 23 down -0.04$/bbl at -0.04$/bbl
    • Brent JUN 23-DEC 23 up 0.07$/bbl at 1.65$/bbl
    • WTI FEB 23-MAR 23 unchanged at -0.29$/bbl
    • WTI MAR 23-APR 23 unchanged at -0.25$/bbl
    • WTI JUN 23-DEC 23 up 0.05$/bbl at 1.38$/bbl
