Dep Treasury Sec Nominee-Yellen Has Asked For Top-To-Bottom Sanctions Review

At his confirmation hearing before the Senate Finance Committee, nominee for Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeymo states that he has been tasked by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen with conducting a top-to-bottom review of the US sanctions regime if he is confirmed.

• On China, says that they are a 'strategic competitor' (language also used by President Biden in his MSC speech last week). Says "Its important that we hold them [China] accountable to the rules that we have agreed to in the international system, in some cases unilaterally, but always best to do multilaterally". Says that unilateral action could be taken against China if they violate "the rules of the road".
• Adeyemo serves as president of the Barack Obama Foundation and was Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economics in the Obama administration.
