Dos Bocas Refinery Mexico Falls Short of December Plans

REFINING

Pemex’s Dos Bocas refinery in Mexico is sill facing delays after the government said it would be running at full capacity by December earlier in the year.

  • It was expected to be producing commercial grades of gasoline and diesel this month to help reduce the country’s reliance on imports.
  • The 304,000 bpd refinery has said it has received its first crude cargo and begun refining it.
  • Pemex said late Wednesday the refinery was still being inspected before ramping up activity further.
  • Neither Pemex nor the Mexican government have given further updates on the refinery status after bold claims in recent months have fallen short.
  • The refinery is part of Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s plan to have Mexico running self-sufficient for fuel supply by 2024.
