Dovish comments from Centeno

ECB
  • There have been some dovish comments published this morning from Banco de Portugal Governor (and ECB Governing Council member) Mario Centeno. His interview with La Stampa was published overnight.
  • The interview is behind a paywall with the Bloomberg headlines only hitting a few minutes ago in which he said the ECB should "not rush to conclusions very fast" while noting that there was a downside surprise in inflation data relative to the December forecasts. He also said that this would mean that the ECB should heed these lower inflation prints in the March forecasts and reiterated that the ECB targets headline, not core inflation.
  • Centeno's comments have been on the dovish side in the past, so there has been no notable market impact from the headline release.
