POLAND: Duda Meets With Kellog, Microsoft Touts Investments In Poland

POLAND
  • Prime Minister Donald Tusk expressed confidence that President Andrzej Duda will present a united front with the cabinet during his meeting with US Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellog today. Duda and Kellog will speak as representatives of the US and Russia meet in Riyadh to discuss ending the war in Ukraine. Meanwhile, upon his return from an informal summit in Paris, Tusk said that Poland is not planning to deploy troops to Ukraine but will provide logistical and political support to all countries willing to provide "physical guarantees" to Kyiv.
  • The Finance Ministry reported that fiscal deficit in 2024 was PLN210.9bn, less than the PLN240.3bn pencilled in the budget by PLN29.4bn or 0.8% of GDP. However, fiscal deficit in January was PLN3.2bn even as each year usually starts with a surplus. Santander wrote that this was seemingly a result of the Finance Ministry resigning from the usual practice of fast-tracking tax refunds around the turn of the year.
  • Microsoft will invest $700mn in data centres in Poland through mid-2026, while the company's President Brad Smith said that further investments are possible thereafter, without specifying the details.
