Duda & Tusk To Make Joint Trip To White House

POLAND
  • The White House announced that President Joe Biden will host President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Donald Tusk during their joint visit to Washington DC on March 12, marking the 25th anniversary of Poland's admission to NATO. The leaders will likely seek to demonstrate cross-partisan commitment to national security, despite their ongoing heated disputes at home. President Duda described the visit as evidence that the "Polish-American alliance is and will be strong regardless of who is in power in both countries."
  • Political reporting in local media over the past days has been pointing to a covert crisis within the main opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party. This comes as the preparations for the upcoming European election are picking up, which is adding to the existing tensions, as PiS officials compete for the chances to win seats in the European Parliament.
  • Agriculture Minister Czeslaw Siekierski said that Poland could finalise talks with Kyiv over limits on Ukrainian food imports by end-March amid escalating protests of Polish farmers.
