DOLLAR: DXY has ebbed 18 pips lower and last sits at 97.04 after falling 9 pips
on Monday. Stronger than exp. U.S. Jan retail sales failed to provide meaningful
support, with the Dec figures revised lower.
- Worth mentioning U.S. Tsy Sec Mnuchin, U.S. TR Lighthizer & Chinese trade
envoy Liu discussed the next steps of Sino-U.S. trade talks in a phone call
today.
- WTI trades ~$0.30 higher, while gold has added ~$2.60.
- DXY bears look to the nearby 97.00 mark, which limited losses yesterday. A
break below would open up the 21-DMA at 96.74. Conversely, bulls keep an eye on
yesterday's peak at 97.45.
- U.S. focus today turns to domestic CPI, as well as comments from Fed's
Brainard.
