DOLLAR
DOLLAR: DXY last seen at 96.69, virtually unch. on the day, with WTI sitting a
touch lower & gold trading flat. The index added 16 pips yesterday, even AS the
USD's London/NY gains were capped by reports noting progress in the U.S. House
Judiciary Committee's probe into the dealings of President Trump.
- Worth mentioning that Senate Majority Leader McConnell said that the chamber
is set to pass a resolution blocking President Trump's declaration of national
emergency. However, McConnell added that Congress will likely not be able to
rebuke any subsequent presidential veto.
- Monday also saw Tsy Sec Mnuchin invoke special measures through June 5 to
continue paying the U.S. gov't's bills without breaching the debt ceiling.
- DXY bulls need to retake yesterday's peak at 96.82 before challenging the
psychological 97.00 level. Conversely, bears look for a breach of the 21-DMA at
96.57, which would allow them to set their sights on the 100-DMA at 96.49.
- U.S. focus today turns to domestic non-m'fing PMI data, new home sales &
monthly budget statement. Elsewhere, Fed's Rosengren Kashkari and Barkin are due
to speak.
