MARKET TALK: E-minis have edged higher during the early part of the final
Asia-Pac session of the week, with local equity indices (that are open) a little
more subdued given the negative lead from Wall St. after Sino-U.S. & Hong Kong
tensions bubbled on Thursday.
- Worth flagging some comments from U.S. President Trump, made in late NY trade,
as he noted that "we are not closing our country" in the hypothetical event of a
second wave of coronavirus infections hitting the U.S.
- Nothing in the way of notable market reaction to a BBG headline noting that
China has omitted a 2020 GDP growth target
from its Work Report, as it points to COVID-19 & global uncertainties. There had
been broad speculation that China may do this in recent weeks/months.
- Early focus on Friday likely to fall on the Hang Seng after HSI futures shed
nearly 400 points overnight as it became apparent that China is set to press
forward with a bill re: Hong Kong security matters.
