EGB/Gilt - A fast market afternoon session

  • An incredibly busy session for EGBs, Gilts and Bund.
  • Yields rose across the board after ECB Lagarde's comment on inflation.
  • Noting that there is now unanimous concerns about the inflation data. And when pressed, she did not repeat statement that a rate hike in 2022 was unlikely.
  • Bund and EGBs plummeted, with Bund just shy of the next yield level at 0.152%, which equates to 166.97, printed a 166.98 low at typing..
  • Peripheral spreads are wider, with Italy in the lead, by 8bps, edging at highest level since September 2020.
  • Similar story for Gilt after the BoE hiked 25bps to 0.50% as expected, but 4 BoE dissenters voted for a 50bps hike, and no members voted for rate to remain unchanged.
  • Gilt futures are down -1.10 today at 121.32 with 10y yields up 11.8bp at 1.373% and 2y yields up 12.2bp at 1.146%
  • Bund futures are down -1.50 today at 167.16 with 10y Bund yields up 9.9bp at 0.137% and Schatz yields up 10.0bp at -0.367%.
  • BTP futures are down -2.10 today at 142.94 with 10y yields up 17.2bp at 1.600% and 2y yields up 16.0bp at 0.131%.
  • OAT futures are down -1.62 today at 159.05 with 10y yields up 11.4bp at 0.564% and 2y yields up 5.3bp at -0.590%.
