Egypt Set to Resume LNG Exports as Vessel Arrives at Idku Terminal

LNG

Egypt is expected to resume LNG exports following the delay due to disrupted gas supplies from Israel.

  • Israel’s pipeline natural gas flows to Egypt returned pre-war levels of 800mcm/d early this week, following the resumption of output of Chevron’s 10bcm/yr Tamar gas field.
  • The Adam LNG vessel has arrived at Egypt’s Idku facility according to Bloomberg ship-tracking with overseas shipments set to resume according to a Bloomberg source.
  • The vessel isn’t yet signalling a destination from the Idku terminal, but Egypt typically ships the majority of its LNG to Europe.
  • Egypt had earlier suggested exports would return in October after a halt over the summer amid increasing local gas consumption. Demand in Egypt has fallen due to slightly cooler temperatures to help eased the domestic supply pressure freeing up some gas for exports.
  • LNG exports from Egypt could be 40% lower this winter compared to a forecast the previous month, according to BNEF.
