Erdogan Announces Withdrawal From Strategic Cooperation Council

  • President Erdogan speaks, announcing the withdrawal of Turkey from the Strategic Cooperation Council with Greece. Erdogan adds that it's "obvious that Greece won't come to reason".
  • Follows a deterioration in Turkish-Greek relations earlier in the week, after the Turkish foreign minister warned Greece against exceeding limits on military presence in the Aegean Sea. Cavusoglu told Hurriyet that “we are extremely serious, we are not bluffing”.
  • Erdogan also warned in Aydinlik over the weekend that US military bases in Greece pose a threat to Turkey.
