TURKEY: Erdogan Says Turkey Ready to Play Part in Achieving Ukraine Peace

  • A just and lasting peace on war in Ukraine is possible, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte over a phone call on Tuesday, Turkey’s Communications Directorate said as per Hurriyet. During the call, Erdogan said Turkey has been doing its utmost to end the war and will continue to do its part in the future.
  • Local newspaper Ekonomi run a piece in which they note that representatives of the real sector have been criticising banks for providing commercial loans at 50% despite the CBRT’s policy rate falling to 45%. Banks are promoting long-term loans with fixed rates as the central bank loosens policy, they say.
  • Turkey's short-term external debt stock was $172.3b in end-December, according to data from the CBRT, an increase of 0.4% compared to the prior month. There are no other major data releases scheduled for today. Consumer confidence figures for February are due for release tomorrow morning.
