Eskom Expects To Record ZAR23.2bn Loss This Year, S. African Data On Tap Today

  • The Daily Maverick reports that Eskom is expected to record a financial loss of ZAR23.2bn for the 12 months ending March 2024, while overspending its diesel-burning budged of ZAR27.9bn. The utility yesterday unveiled its financial results for the six months through September 2023 and managed to return modest profit during that period, albeit the winter season typically leads to higher revenue from electricity sales, which were nonetheless 6% lower than a year before.
  • On the data front, Q4 BER Inflation Expectations Survey will cross the wires at 08:00GMT/10:00SAST. Looking further afield, South Africa will release Q3 non-farm payrolls and November PPI at 09:30GMT/11:30SAST.
  • Elsewhere, the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) will release its Quarterly Bulletin at 08:00GMT/10:00SAST.
