EU Joint Gas Purchase Tender Attracts 65 Submitted Demands

NATURAL GAS

Demands from 65 firms have been submitted to buy gas through the new EU joint gas buying scheme for deliveries from June to May 2024.

  • The EU is aiming for the first deals to be signed in June or July after the first joint gas buying tender took place on 25 April.
  • The scheme is aimed to help fill gas storage ahead of the winter and improve gas market access for smaller companies while avoiding a repeat of the record high energy prices seen last year.
  • The EU platform will collect offers from suppliers, and match buyers with suppliers by 17 May to then allow matched companies to negotiate gas contracts.
  • A total of 101 firms have registered interest in the platform either as buyers or sellers. Around 19 have also signed up as intermediaries to represent multiple smaller firms and 77% is for deliveries to points in pipeline networks with 23% for LNG.
