EU Set to Approve New Measures at Energy Meeting Friday

An EU energy meeting this Friday is set to approve a package of emergency measures including windfall profit levies on energy companies and cuts to electricity demand.

  • "The ministers should hopefully adopt the regulation ... I believe the member states have expressed rather broad support towards the text," a senior EU official has said to news reporters.
  • A discussion on gas price caps is also on the table though it is receiving mixed support from EU nations and officials.
