EUROPE
EUROPE: European Court of Justice publish their rebuke to release earlier this
week from the German constitutional court. ECJ conclude that it alone can rule
that an EU institution (in this case the ECB) can break EU law. Press release
adds that "Divergences between courts of the Member States as to the validity of
such acts would indeed be liable to place in jeopardy the unity of the EU legal
order and to detract from legal certainty" and "The institution will refrain
from communicating further on the matter."
- Seems relatively conclusive and final from the ECJ, with focus shifting to
speech from ECB President Lagarde at 1200BST/0700ET. The President is giving the
opening address on 'COVID-19: Economic Policies for the Aftermath'.
