European Gas Storage Edges Higher Before Winter Season

European gas in store volumes continue to edge higher and holding above the previous five year range despite already exceeding the EU pre winter 90% target level.

  • Total European injections have been 20% below the five year average over the week to 22 Aug according to GIE data compared to about 16% below normal in August and throughout the summer season so far.
  • Total European gas storage is up to 91.62% full on a 22 Aug according to GIE data compared to the five year average for this time of year of 78.6%.
  • Net European storage injections have averaged about 3,020GWh/d in the last week compared to the five year average for the period of just under 3,780GWh/d. Injections typically continue until late October reaching a peak in the last few years of 97.8% full in Oct 2019.
  • Storage in Germany is at 235.5Wh (93.3% full), Italy is at 178.0TWh (91.2%), Netherlands at 133.7TWh (93.9%), France at 118.6Wh (87.0%) and Austria at 89.8TWh (92.0%)
    • TTF SEP 23 down -10.4% at 32.95€/MWh
    • TTF WIN 23 down -7% at 48.96€/MWh
    • TTF SUM 24 down -5% at 50.87€/MWh
