Finance Ministry to Publish Budget Deficit Data After Revising 2024 Target Higher

  • Budget Balance data will cross today at 10:00GMT/11:00CET. Note that the government revised its 2024 budget deficit goal to 4.5% of GDP, up from 2.9% planned earlier. The economy minister said he expects that the economy stalled in Q4-2023 after growth in the Q3, as exports slowed amid a recession in Germany. He forecast the budget deficit narrowing to 3.7% of GDP in 2025 and to 3% later on.
  • CPI data is the key release of the week tomorrow morning. As per the median estimate of the Bloomberg survey of analysts, the headline figure likely fell from +5.5% y/y in December to +4.3% in January.
  • There is little else in the way of domestic news flow so far this morning, while EURHUF trades close to flat at typing.
