Firmer US Futures Helps Trim Losses For The Region

EQUITIES

(MNI Australia) Regional markets are tracking lower across the board, in line with US/EU weakness through Thursday's session. Still, losses have been trimmed with US equity futures recovering from an early session dip (last around +0.10/+0.15%).

  • Tech sensitive bourses have seen the steepest falls, which follows the trend from major bourses in this space through Thursday. These markets aren't enjoying higher US real yields post firmer US data. The Taiex is down 1.1%, while the Kospi is off by 1.56%. Offshore investors are back to sellers, offloading -$150mn of local shares so far today. The Nikkei 225 is down by 0.95%.
  • The HSI is down -0.50% at this stage, but we were down by just over 1.5% not long after the open.
  • Mainland China shares are close to flat. The anecdotes around the domestic covid situation are not encouraging, in terms of case numbers/pressure on the local health system, but this hasn't impacted sentiment today.
  • Most other regional markets are down between 0.25-1.00%.
