POLAND: First Post-Pandemic T-Bill Sale, Trzaskowski's Support Slips

- The latest Opinia24/RMF FM opinion poll showed that the support for the Civic Coalition's presidential candidate Rafal Trzaskowski fell by 9pp over the past month, while his main rival Law and Justice's Karol Nawrocki registered only a marginal decline in support. The first round of the presidential race will be held on May 18, with a run-off pencilled in for June 1. Opinia24 analysts noted that the setback for Trzaskowski's came on the back of a change in sentiment among women and voters with higher education, many of whom have become undecided.
- Bloomberg reported that the Finance Ministry holds its first sale of T-bills in over four years, "tapping into the banking sector's ample short-term liquidity." The Ministry is looking to raise PLN6bn at today's auction of 45-week securities.
- The Foreign Ministry denied accusations that Poland denied a plane carrying a delegation of Slovak lawmakers to Moscow into its airspace, pushing back against accusations made by the leader of the delegation.
- 300Polityka reports that the weekly cabinet meeting has been postponed until Wednesday, which might be related to PM Donald Tusk's expected but unannounced trip to Kyiv.
- The NBP will announce its rate decision on Thursday, with the Governor's press conference expected the day after. Note the one-day delay relative to the usual timing.
- Later today, the National Bank of Poland will release November current account balance and trade balance at 13:00GMT/14:00CET.
