French Nuclear Output Could Plunge To Record Lows In Feb

Persistent nuclear reactor outages and planned strike action at EdF’s sites in France are expected to push nuclear output to historic lows this month.

  • French nuclear reactor availability is expected to average 43GW this month, S&P Commodity Insight’s Sabrina Kernbichler said.
  • Nuclear generation averaged 44GW in February last year and 45.1GW in February 2021, RTE data show.
  • On Wednesday, EdF issued two further 24-hour strike notices for 6 and 10 February, which is likely to weigh on reactor availability.
  • Peak power demand on 6 Feb is forecast at 71GW and at 74.6G on 10 Feb, RTE data show.
  • French nuclear reactor availability stood at 44.24GW on Thursday morning.
