FT: Barnier Expects Talks Beyond EuCo Summit

FT's Brussels Correspondent Jim Brundsen tweets: "SOURCES: Michel Barnier tells EU ambassadors that he expects Brexit talks to continue after October 15-16 EU summit. Summit will be for stocktaking"".MichelBarnier also called for openings on fish from EU countries in order to unlock a deal."

  • This comes around the same time as EuCo president Charles Michel tweeted: "Just talked to Boris Johnson. The EU prefers a deal, but not at any cost. Time for the UK to put its cards on the table. #EUCO #15-16October"
  • As well as Guardian / Telegraph sources pieces saying that the UK negotiators are set to compromise on the Human Rights Act by remaining subject to rulings by the European Court of Human Rights after Brexit.
  • Plenty of headlines/reports swirling today. Sterling stronger in the past 20 minutes, apparently, on modest optimism on balance of a deal being reached. Gilts largely unchanged.
