Further Signs of Cooling US-Iran Tensions

  • WSJ reports that the US have resumed diplomacy with Iran on the issue of prisoners and nuclear issues, with Iran and US officials holding several sets of indirect talks in Oman. The officials are said to be exploring understandings in order to cool tensions, according to WSJ sources.
  • Follows the Middle East Eye story last week citing sources in reporting that the US and Iran were nearing an interim deal on nuclear issues, paving the way for a resumption of oil exports.
  • At the time, the reports were denied as "completely false" by a US spokesperson, but more reports suggesting diplomatic progress between the two states continue to circulate and are garnering focus
