Gazprom, CNPC Sign Deal to Raise Gas Supplies to China

Gazprom and China’s CNPC have signed an addendum to their contract on gas supplies via the Power of Siberia 1 route to increase natural gas flows this year, Gazprom said via Telegram.

  • The amendment will increase gas supplies to China through 2023. No further details have been released.
  • Russia expects to increase natural gas exports via the Power of Siberia pipeline to China to 30bcm next year, compared with an estimated 22bcm this year, Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov said last month. Flows are expected to reach 38bcm/yr in 2025.
  • President Vladimir Putin made a rare visit to China this week to meet Chinese Premier Xi Jinping at the belt and road initiative.
