German Gas Demand Rose WoW, Lags Reduction Target

German gas consumption in calendar week six rose by 8.6% on the week and stood 17% below the 2018-2021 average, Bnetza data show.

  • The weekly increase in gas demand was despite temperatures modestly above the seasonal norm.
  • Temperature-adjusted consumption stood 12.9% below the 2018-2021 average last week.
  • Germany set itself a 20% gas reduction target compared to the 2018-2021 average, which it has lagged several consecutive weeks.
  • German industrial gas consumption stood at a daily average of 1,852GW, up from 1,648GWh in calendar week five.
  • Gas demand from households and businesses rose to 1,930GWh/day last week, up from 1,842GWh/day a week earlier.
  • German gas storage levels stood at 72.15% on 14 Feb, compared with 75.47% a week earlier, AGSI data show.
