Gov't To Seek Legal Interpretation Of Court Order In Landmark Loadshedding Case

  • Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said that Eskom will do its best to avoid the escalation of power cuts during the festive season, but he could give no guarantees. The official added that the government is considering seeking "legal interpretation" of the ruling of the Gauteng Division of the High Court which demanded that all police stations, public shools, clinics and hospitals are free from power outages by January 31. He also lauded the appointment of Dan Marokane as new Eskom CEO, which was confirmed by Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan last Friday, ending a year-long search for the new head of the utility.
  • Eskom announced that "due to improved generation capacity availability and adequate emergency reserves, loadshedding will continue to be suspended until 05:00 on Monday. From Monday to Thursday, Stage 3 loadshedding will be implemented from 05:00 until 16:00 and Stage 4 loadshedding will be implemented from 16:00 until 05:00".
