Hernandez Considers Banking Regulator Head as Finance Minister

  • Colombian presidential candidate Rodolfo Hernandez said he is considering naming Jorge Castano, the current head of the nation’s banking regulator, to be finance minister as he starts disclosing the names of his potential cabinet. (Bloomberg)
    • The comments came during an interview with Barranquilla-based newspaper El Heraldo, however, he hasn’t spoken to Castano about the role yet.
  • Castano, a lawyer from Externado University in Bogota, has held the position of Colombia’s finance regulator in charge of overseeing banks, pension funds and other financial activities since 2017 after spending most of his career in the public sector. The financial supervisor declined to comment on Hernandez’s remark.
