HF Sinclair Says It Can Supply Tight California Gasoline Market: Bloomberg
- HF Sinclair plans to send more refined products to the West Coast amid the ongoing outage of PBF’s Martinez refinery in California and what it sees as a chronic gasoline shortage in the state.
- “Part of our overall strategy is to be able to move barrels west to take advantage of what we perceive to be a gasoline shortage long-term in that area. And so that strategy is paying out as we see this heavy turnaround season and some unplanned events going on right now,” CEO Timothy Go said on a fourth-quarter earnings call Thursday.
- California fuel shortage is a direct benefit to company’s 145k b/d Puget Sound refinery in Washington that can make and ship California-grade gasoline south.
- “We have a small growth capital project at Puget Sound that will allow us to make even more CARB gasoline and ship it. And that comes online here in the next month or two.”
- Company sending barrels west out of Group 3 to Salt Lake Valley and Las Vegas markets in part served by California refineries and can also send barrels to Phoenix from its 155k b/d Tusla, Oklahoma, refinery.
- Phillips 66 announced Oct. 16 plans to end crude oil processing at its two-plant refinery complex in Los Angeles in the last quarter of 2025.
