HUNGARY: EU Commissioners to Skip Hungary Meetings Following Orban Diplomacy

The chief spokesman for the EU’s executive arm said Monday that it will send senior civil servants rather than commissioners to informal meetings of ministers held in Budapest.
  • Hungary's current account had an EUR 838m surplus in May, narrowing from EUR 1.160bn the previous month, preliminary monthly data released by the NBH show. The surplus in trade of goods came to EUR 429m and the surplus in trade of services stood at EUR 810m.
  • Today, EU energy ministers will hold an informal meeting in Budapest. There are no economic releases on the docket until economic sentiment data Sunday evening. The NBH meet next on July 23, where the central bank is broadly expected to maintain its cautious stance and keep rates unchanged at 7.00%.
