IMF Statement, BanRep Decision Due Thursday

  • The economic recovery in 2021 was among the fastest in the region and economic momentum is expected to continue into 2022, the IMF says in a statement following Article IV consultation.
  • The above-potential growth of around 5.75% expected this year will be led by “robust household consumption and continued recovery of investment and exports”. However, they note that risks to growth remain tilted to the downside.
  • BanRep will meet on Thursday, March 31, and are widely expected to hike the overnight lending rate to 5.50%. The full MNI preview will be published tomorrow.
