RENEWABLES: Ireland Adds 211MW of Wind in 2024, Capacity Now Exceeds 5GW

Ireland’s onshore wind capacity surged in 2024, with additions reaching 211MW by December and the country’s total commissioned capacity now exceeding 5GW, according to data by BloombergNEF.

  • This is slightly up from 200MW of wind added in 2023.
  • Three wind projects have been commissioned in Ireland so far in 2024.
  • The largest, SSE Yellow River Wind Farm, with a capacity of 104MW, was commissioned on 17 December.
  • However, this is down from BloombergNEF forecasts of 339MW of new wind capacity by the end of 2024.
