The ISM Mfg PMI edged up again in Aug, rising 1.8pt to the highest level since Nov 2018 and beating market forecasts looking for a smaller uptick to 54.5. Aug's increase was mainly driven by a sharp jump of New Orders (+6.1pt), seeing the strongest reading since Jan 2004, followed by Supplier Deliveries (+2.4pt), Employment (+2.1pt) and Production (+1.2pt). Among the main five categories, Inventories (-2.6pt) was the only one to show a m/m decline. Overall, Prices showed the largest increase in Aug, up 6.3pt to 59.5, while Exports gained 2.9pt to 53.3 and imports rose to 55.6. Order Backlogs ticked up 2.8pt to 54.6, showing the fourth consecutive uptick.
