Israel to Boost Gas Exports to Egypt

Israel will expand its natural gas exports to Egypt from its offshore Tamae field, according to Energy Minister Israel Katz.

  • Katz said that he approved the new exports after ensuring that supplies for Israel's domestic use were guaranteed. Israel limits exports to ensure that production meets domestic demand first.
  • In 2022, Israel produced 21.29 bcm of natural gas, but exported only 9.21 bcm. The exports went to Egypt and Jordan.
  • The expanded exports will also be of benefit to Egypt, whose natural gas production from Jan-May was at a 3-year low, while suffering power shortages and blackouts during the summer.
