July Electricity Consumption Drops to Lowest Since COVID

  • Bloomberg report that electricity production fell 7.7% in July on a Y/Y basis, with consumption dropping 6.2% over the same period.
  • Recall in July, South Africa saw the last of the widespread load-shedding and wildcat strikes among Eskom workers - so not too much a surprise to see these initially concerning looking figures, which should correct higher in the coming months.
