OIL: Kazakhstan Waiting for OPEC+ Meet Before Adjusting Production

OIL

Kazakhstan is not planning to adjust its 2025 oil production forecast and will wait for the next OPEC+ meeting, Kazakh Energy Minister Almassadam Satkaliyev said on Wednesday Interfax reports.

  • "There are no trends towards an increase or decrease in production volumes for now, and we are planning the 96.2 million [tonnes] that the government has set for us," Satkaliyev said.
  • Kazakhstan overproduction has been a persistent problem for OPEC+ as it has struggled to find adherence to caps within the group. Russia and Iraq have been the other repeat offenders.
  • All of them are on a compensation plan but Kazakh production hitting a daily record high on Sunday draws questions around its commitment. The recent comments may be supporting lower prices on Wednesday.
