Kazakhstan’s Oil Output Rises On Kashagan Restart

OIL

Kazakhstan's oil and gas condensate production has increased by 9% to 256,600 t/d, after the Kashagan field has gradually ramped up oil production last week, following a gas leak that forced 170kbpd of output offline according to industry sources and official data.

  • Oil output at the Kashagan oilfield last month declined after its operator shut two offshore injection wells on 20 May which resulted in an initial production cut of 100kbpd, which was increased to 170kbpd at a later stage, people familiar with the matter said earlier this month.
  • Kashagan’s oil output rose to 51,934 t/d, or 411,700bpd, of June 12, from average 306,440bpd in early June.
  • The field’s oil output was down by 8% in May because of the leak. Kazakhstan’s crude oil production stood at 1.55mbpd last month, down by 3% from April levels according to Reuters calculations.
