NEW ZEALAND
NEW ZEALAND: Latest opinion poll shows the governing Labour Party of PM Jacinda
Ardern retaining a large lead over the main opposition centre-right National
Party ahead of the 19 September general election.
- Labour 50% (-9), Nationals 38% (+9), Green Party 6% (+1.3), ACT 3.1% (+0.9),
New Zealand First 1.8% (-1.1). TVNZ-Colmar Brunton, June 20-24 (chgs w/ May
16-20).
- Even with the 9% decline in support from May, if these polling figures were
replicated in the election Labour would emerge with a majority in parliament.
- PM Jacinda Ardern's personal stock has soared during the COVID-19 pandemic,
with the country's strict and fast lockdown limiting the spread of the disease,
allowing for a full reopening of the country far quicker than any other
developed nation.
- Same opinion poll asked for preferred PM: Ardern (Labour) 54%, Muller
(National) 13%, Peters (NZF) 2%.
