Libyan Oil Production Set for Further Disruption

OIL

Protesters have started to shut down Libya's 200,000 b/d eastern Sarir field according to a source speaking with Argus.

  • It is not clear if it is fully offline or in the process of lowering production.
  • Fresh threats erupted at the key eastern ports Es Sider and Ras Lanuf, according to a second Libyan source. Protesters have forced mangers at the Sidra and Ras Lanuf oil ports to close, and the tanker KIRITI Bastion was mobilized in Ras Lanuf to be the last, and another tanker, Estrella, will be prevented from entering Sidra to load 600,000 barrels of oil.
  • The prospective disruptions add to demonstrations that have shut-in over a quarter of Libya's production since mid-April.
  • Libya's largest field, the 300,000 b/d El Sharara, is operating at minimal capacity after being shut by protestors last month.
