LNG: EU LNG Import Capacity Utilisatiion Fell in Q2 2024 y/y

LNG

Utilization of LNG import terminals in both northern Europe and southern Europe declined in Q2 2024 compared to the same quarter in 2023, according to Team Consult.

  • The decline was stronger in countries located in western Europe (Great Britain, France, Belgium and Spain) than in other European countries.
  • Increased import capacities in several European countries have reduced the dependency on imports of LNG from the western nations.
  • The start of operations of Germany’s FSRU in Mukran contributed to the growth in capacity compared to the previous quarter.
  • Sendout in northern Europe averaged 2,160GWh/d in Q2 compared to capacity of 5,420GWh/d while southern Europe sendout was 1,040GWh/d compared to capacity of 3,180GWh/d.
